Brats in Beer Recipe Ingredients• 12 bratwurst• 4 bottles Sierra Nevada Nooner IPA• 1 large onion, diced• 2 Tbsp. grapeseed oil• 2 tsp. red pepper flakes• 1 tsp. fresh garlic, minced• 1 tsp. salt• ½ tsp. ground black pepper DirectionsPreheat and prepare grill to medium heat. In a large pot, add the grapeseed oil, pepper flakes, garlic, salt and pepper. Add onion and sautée until the onions become clear and tender. Add beer to the pot and bring to a boil. Add bratwurst and watch closely until the boil resumes. Adjust the heat to a very slow simmer. (Boiling will break the skin, causing much of the brat’s flavors to be lost.) Simmer for 10 – 15 minutes. Remove the bratwurst. Grill the bratwurst on the preheated grill turning only once. Optional, but delicious: Being careful not to scorch or burn, return the beer mixture to a medium-to-high simmer. Continue to simmer until the mixture is reduced to one-half to a third its original amount. Serve as a side dish with the bratwurst. Recommended Sides: Pan fried potatoes (Bratkartoffeln) and German coleslaw (Krautsalat) Forward Pass Tequila Mojito Yield: about 5 drinks 1 cup water ¾ cup sugar 1 cup fresh mint sprigs 2 cups cold 7-Up 1 cup fresh lime juice ½ cup El Mayor Blanco fresh mint sprigs lime slices Directions Bring the water to a boil and stir in the sugar. Simmer, stirring often, until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat; add mint sprigs, and let stand until mixture is completely cool. Strain mixture into a pitcher and discard the mint. Add 7-Up, lime juice, and tequila. Serve over ice. Optional – garnish with mint sprigs and lime wedges. Game Day Lemonade Yield: about 8 drinks 12 cups Bacardi light rum 1 - 12-ounce can froze lemonade concentrate, thawed 1 tsp. hot sauce (Cholula or similar) (1) 1-liter bottle club soda, chilled lemon wheels from one lemon Directions Mix together the rum, lemonade concentrate, and hot sauce in a large container. Add club soda right before serving, mixing well. Float the lemon wheels in the container. Serve over ice. Use a lemon wheel as garnish if preferred. This drink is perfect served from a cooler, or an iced tea dispenser. Tip – Leave the hot sauce on the side and let those who like it add it to their individual drink.
