Brewed in the USA Fri, Jun 28, 24 | beer blog Josh Liddy Beer is as old as human civilization, and the American colonists didn't hesitate starting to brew when they landed here what is now the U S of A; the earliest record of brewing here was in Virginia colony in 1587. Our founding fathers were beer fans themselves! President George Washington had a small brewery at his home, Mount Vernon. First Lady Martha Jefferson is said to have brewed 15 gallons of beer at Monticello every two weeks. This American beer tradition continues today, with the most recent records indicating that there were 9,709 breweries across the country! I'm going to highlight beers that have "American" in the title in honor of Independence Day. Great Raft Commotion American Pale Ale Great Raft has some great beers. Commotion is the best seller at Colonial. You get a ton of juicy and citrusy notes on the nose that follow with some tropical flavors on the palate. This would be a great addition to your summer cooler. Ozark American Pale Ale Brewed here at home in Arkansas, Ozark is a household name. There’s a lot of pine and citrus on the nose, with pine and some malt on the palate. If you haven't tried this beer yet, you are missing out! Boulevard Tank 7 American Saison This is one of my favorite beers! Lots of fruit on the nose and lots of that characteristic Belgian clove and some grassy hay notes you get from a Saison. Tank 7 is a great introduction to farmhouse ale. Bell's Two Hearted American IPA Two Hearted is a classic. It is 100% Centennial hops which gives this huge pine and citrus notes. If you're an IPA fan, or know an IPA fan, this is most definitely one to try. Wiseacre Tiny Bomb American Pilsner I include this one on a lot of my blogs, but for good reason! I love this beer. Light spice notes with some sweetness from the wild honey that they harvest locally. This is the epitome of a summer beer to me. The long tradition of American brewing is still going strong. Each of these styles pays homage to the English, German, and Belgian immigrants that helped build and make this country the great melting pot that it is.
